Burnley cricket legend James Anderson to be knighted

Burnley’s James Anderson, England cricket’s record Test wicket taker, is to be given a knighthood for services to the sport.

42-year-old Anderson played 188 Tests for England between 2003 and 2024, and retired from Test cricket last summer with 704 wickets to his name, making him the most successful pace bowler in the format.

Anderson also played, 194 ODIs and 19 T20 internationals for England during his international career.

The Lancashire County Cricket player is the only sportsperson to be honoured in the former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's resignation honours list, which has been published today.
