Fire crews spent the night checking for hotspots after a blaze broke out in the former Central Club.
Emergency services were called to the former Central Club on Kent Road at just after 2:40pm on Saturday.
Firefighters used an aerial ladder platform and a water tower to bring the fire under control.
A large smoke plume affected the local area, with several nearby homes evacuated.
