
Police are investigating a suspected arson attack that destroyed a derelict church building in Thornton.
Shortly after 6pm on Tuesday (April 22), Lancashire Fire and Rescue were called to a fire at the St Nicholas Owen Church Presbytery on Raikes Road.
The building which was well ablaze on arrival.
Police are now investigating the incident as suspected arson and are appealing to any residents or witnesses who may have seen anything suspicious, or that have CCTV or dashcam footage of the area to get in touch via 101, quoting log number LC-20250422-1246.
A spokesperson for the fire service said: ‘’Four fire engines from Blackpool and Fleetwood, along with the aerial ladder platform and the drone attended an incident on Raikes Road in Thornton Cleveleys.
‘’The fire involved a large, detached derelict building consisting of two floors, approximately 17 metres by 7 metres in size.
‘’Firefighters used three jets, three triple extension ladders, one roof ladder, three thermal imaging cameras, one 13.5-metre ladder, and one hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.’’
No injuries were reported.
