Plans have been submitted to transform two empty units in Poulton’s Teanlowe Centre into a banking hub.
An application has been lodged with Wyre Council planners for the proposed replacement of external doors to form a retail banking hub combining two vacant retail units at the retail centre.
The units were previously occupied by the former Tui travel agent and Oxfam charity shop, located at Units 10 & 11.
In August it was announced that the town has been accepted for the banking hub amenity following a community request with the support of Andrew Snowden, MP for Fylde.
Residents say the amenity is desperately needed because there are now no bank branches left in the town.
Banking hubs are shared banking spaces, similar to a traditional bank branch, but available to all banking customers. The hub will provide a counter service operated by Post Office employees, enabling customers to withdraw and deposit cash, pay bills and carry out regular transactions.
The planning application was lodged on November 7.
To support the proposals, a Design, Access and Heritage Statement has been prepared to accompany the application for proposed upgrade works.
The statement, on behalf of applicants Cash Access UK, said: “The proposed upgrades represent a sensitive and justified intervention to ensure the ongoing use and preservation of this important retail street within the Conservation Area.
“The works will support the building’s future without compromising its architectural or historical significance, aligning with national and local heritage policies.“
