A man has been jailed for nine years after being found guilty of the manslaughter of Daniel Allsop in Blackpool last October.
30-year-old Mali Wright was also jailed for a further five and a half years for an unrelated Class A drugs supply matter.
He was subject to an unprovoked attack by Wright, at around 4.30pm on October 2 in Bethesda Road.
Wright punched Daniel so hard that he broke his ribs and ruptured his spleen. Daniel managed to run away but collapsed a short time later.
Daniel was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital, but died of his injuries on October 4.
A murder investigation was launched, and Wright was arrested on suspicion of causing Daniel’s death.
Det Ch Insp Jill Riley, of Lancashire Police’s Force Major Investigation Team said: “Mali Wright has been sent to prison for 14 and a half years, but this will not ease the pain suffered by Daniel’s family.
“Mali Wright’s actions have left a child without their dad, parents without their son and siblings without a brother.
“Mali Wright was a former boxer. He punched Daniel with a shocking level of violence and brutality. I am pleased with the sentence handed down on him today and just hope that this brings some degree of comfort and closure for Daniel’s family.
In their victim impact statement, Daniel’s family said: “Daniel was a very cheeky chap, he always had everyone laughing. He was always there with his quick-witted one-liners. Daniel had an absolute heart of gold and would do anything for anyone. he adored us- his mum and his siblings and we all adored him. Daniel was loved by all who met him.
“We as Daniel’s family have been devastated by the actions of Mali WRIGHT on the 2nd October 2023. We have lost our son and brother and we will never get over that. Daniel was ours and we will always love and remember him. We are now grateful that justice has been served for Daniel and he can now rest in peace. We can now as a family grieve, move forward and remember him.”
